Earth & Stones Plates Series
Utsuwa, from the Japanese word for “vessel”, refers to containers such as cups, plates, dishes and can be expressed through the gesture of cupped hands; which to me, became an investigation in abstract form, each with a particular individuality.
It is also used to describe an individual whose character shows humility and gratitude.
These vessels contain wild foraged granite and soils collected from an array of locations in many parts of the world; from Brazil to Australia.

Cooking is ancient…
In ceramic art, clay is a tool for imagination, and during the production, the material is infused with thoughts and emotions. It implies an intimate conversation and assumes a collaboration between myself and the materials I use.
These hand-built sculptural works and their making convey more than their material properties of shape and form. It is myself in them. Through the act of touch when shaping these pieces, they become an imprint of everything I have become as a person. They begin as elements in a realm of emotion and desire, before coming into the world.
